This is the new book written by Ian Glasper covering DIY Punk in 80’s Britain and what a book from start to finish! This is a similar lay to previous I.G. book and around 140 bands tell their stories! lots of great stories but some sad ones too where members have since passed on or just vanished!
How the postie manged to ram this book through my letter box is anyone’s guess as its nearly 700 pages thick! I suppose the saving grace was the book is that thick my hound Mollie couldn’t chew it up!
There’s some excellent bands featured in here such as Criminal Damage, Karma Sutra, Indian Dream, Internal Autonomy (One of the best bands to come out of the 80’s), Life Cycle, Mania, On Parole, Revulsion, Statement and Vex. All of whom give good accounts of themselves!
That’s not the rest don’t because the likes of Alienation, Anabolic Steroids, Anorexia, Government Lies, Post Mortem, The Sedated and Socities Victims I enjoyed reading about as I Dealt with many of the bands selling their records / tapes back in the day when I run D.I.Y Distribution.
Included are also some great photos too even though many look dated but hey ho they were taken 40 years ago!
For me this book gives a great account of the 80’s and some don’t shy away from either nazi boneheads and the police smashing gigs up! if you were there you’d know!
For anyone wanting to grab an insight in to 80’S UK DIY punk A Country Fit For Heroes is one of the best books out there and covers the days of 80’s punk marvelously!
