Having been made redundant from my job I was looking forward to seeing German punk band Erection play but this almost didn’t happen due to the trains being cancelled because of flooding!
I left everything until the last minute and made it to the train station with seconds to spare and off we went to Shrewsbury. Uneventful journey made a tad worse with the wifi not working so I couldn’t listen to some new videos on my phone.
On arrival at the venue I was introduced to Erection and we headed upstairs to do an interview which was great made even better by lovely and warn nature of the entire band. That interview will be up shortly!

First up were Parallel States. These were a new band to me and what a pleasant surprise with some catchy punk rock tunes being played. If you love American punk bands like No Use For A name you’ll really what this Notts based band have on offer!
Just a shame they didn’t play for longer but they’ve really got something going for them and the audience seemed to get well in to them!
Check them out!

Once Parallel States had finished their set Erection quickly set up and they kicked off their set with Parking Garage and they quickly steamed into other numbers such as Don’t Wanna Be Nice, Fuck You, Queendom and Dead Girls which Julia dedicated to me. They finished their set off in style with Ba Ba.
40 odd minutes Erection delivered some of the best punk songs I’ve heard in a long time many feminist themed such as Dead Girls – You need to check that video out on You Tube. A very powerful number about male violence against women.
Julia is one of the best front women I’ve seen this century and her stage presence is enormous. The lads backing her really play their hearts out. One of the best newer bands to come out of Germany.
Riot Girl meets Catchy Punk is the best way to describe Erection. They blew me away tonight and they have three more UK dates left in Stockton, Brighton and York. I suggest you pop along to one of their shows!
Best Live Band I’ve seen this year by far!
