I hadn’t seen Spear Of Destiny for at least 8 years and since I was off to the Asylum to see The Duel . Finding the venue was a nightmare and I walked about for almost 80 minutes until I found some one who had heard of the Venue.

On Arrival at the venue I had a catch up with Tara and Paul of The Duel before we headed upstairs to perform their set!

I really wasn’t sure if a two-piece from the Duel would work but I soon relaxed when they opened up with ‘Maze’ a very powerful number which grabbed the attention of not only myself but also the Spear Of Destiny fans.

Combining Paul Laventhol’s guitar work along side a drum machine and Tara Rez’ vocals worked. Most 5-pieces couldn’t struggle to get that power from their sound let alone a two-piece.

The proofs lays in the pudding and with tracks such as ‘Dying Sun’, ‘I’m On To You’ and ‘Hold To Love’ you couldn’t ask for a better band!

Even their new song ‘Rule The World’ was an amazing start to the 4 or 5 dates they have on this tour.

Tars Rez delivers her words with so much conviction to be believed. She is the real deal and in a different time the band could have been huge!

Finishing off with ‘Shadow Of Dreams’ the Spear Of Destiny fans were won over!

Time to retreat to the changing rooms which were great!

Soon it was time for Spear Of Destiny to hit the stage and they did so in style!

As they approached the stage I witnessed a number of talented musicians in their own right backing up foundind member Kirk Brandon. Lets see there was Craig Addams from the Cult, Sisters Of Mercy and the Alarm along with Adrian Portas of ‘New Model Army’ fame!

For ninety minutes Kirk Brandon’s Spear Of Destiny was shown how other bands how to play a gig. All these musicians were as solid and they were back in the day!

Some great tracks were played including ‘Land Of Shame’, ”Young Men’ and ‘These Days Are Gone’.

You couldn’t ask for a better live band than Spear Of Destiny. Their entire set was full on and despite some crowd interaction the band were set to blow Birmingham away! It was just a shame the venue wan’t busier and the people of Birmigham missed out big time!

This was the best gig I’d been to since lockdown ended and has left me with a lovely memory!
